I can't call him LOL. His phone fell into a bowl of water. I'd sound like "blub, blub, glub..." in some sort of pitiful watery way. Rocketry is fun. -W On Tue, Sep 27, 2022 at 2:49 PM Chris Feyerchak <chris_groups_io@...> wrote:

Based upon traffic on the Skybuster's list, it looks like John's account could be compromised and being used for a gift card scam. Make sure you authenticate John before committing money. On Tue, Sep 27, 2022, 2:24 PM Wolfram v.Kiparski <astronwolf@...> wrote:

It you i wanted to email, Glad you are doing fine and keeping safe. I am sorry to bother you, I'm unavailable over the phone, I am only here with my iPad. I just need to get an Apple gift card for a Cancer patient. It's her birthday. I promised her a gift card, but I can't do this now because currently I'm traveling for a week to Bainbridge Island. Can you get it from any store around you? I'll pay back as soon as possible. Kindly let me know if you can handle this, so I can tell you the amount and how to get it to me. While the forecast calls for fairly nice weather, the prevailing winds from the south forces us to scrub the launch. South winds are unfavorable at Harmon because:
1. Model rockets tend to weathercock into the wind, which can put them across the street over the houses. If the recovery system completely fails, they can (and have) landed near a house after following a ballistic trajectory. 2. A south wind tends to blow our rockets into the woods. The launch is scrubbed. Next date is Saturday, October 8. See you then. -Wolf MTMA President |

Yes and no. To my knowledge, Mr. Barber is still the principle owner, but Kyle, the minority owner who was running an aircraft repair facility, has moved on to other things.

number 4 @ Harmon - not really - at least not in my experience of setting up as many as two launches per month for the past few years. number 5 - we lost more rockets to the trees in one month @ Barber than we did in several years at Harmon. Observations all based on years of launch attendance, of course. MTMA considered Barber as a launch site 20 years ago, and it turned out to be unsuitable then. We verified exactly why it is unsuitable. Sure, it looks good. But in practice, it was "sub-optimal" in ways that made Harmon look like the best field in the world. The parachute club didn't want us flying on the field. They didn't even want to see us standing around out there. The landowner responded by attempting to micro-manage our launches. The situation became untenable. Barber may seem better than Harmon, but when the people who actually bust their butts to provide a place where you can just show up and fly rockets are telling you than Barber was unsuitable - please believe them. We're not flying down their just because we're lazy or set in our ways. -W |

From my understanding Barber Field is under new ownership. Has anyone reached out to them? Skydiving is seasonal at Barber Field. That being said maybe we could reach out to new ownership and schedule off-seasonal launch dates. We could set up playing the winds and landscape to our favor. -----Original Message-----

Barber field is so much bigger that even setting up sub-optimally gives you a lot more room. I admit that since I live 5 minutes away, I'm a little biased, but I like Barber field much more than the park in Aurora. Except for one house, Barber could be a HPR field.
