Locked MTMA #11 Launch Report, and other stuff

Tod Hilty

Launch report is up on RMR. I won't post it over here, it got rather large..
Please feel free to bend, staple, and spindle as you see fit!

<g>

As for Sunday, Phil is working on getting the corn out of the western field.
He's got about 20 rows out around the perimeter, and doesn't know if the
rest will be down by this weekend, as the corn in the center is still too wet.

Flying is still most possible tho', as we've still got the field to the
east, and given a good westerly, or southerly wind we'd have plenty of room
to put some good sized stuff up.

Weather for Sunday looks pretty decent at this point, but it's still pretty
early to tell.

I'm game... can I have a headcount on who else might attend MTMA #12 on Sunday?

Thanks!

Locked Reminder - Launch at Pioneer Trail Field

MTMA@...

We would like to remind you of this upcoming event.

Launch at Pioneer Trail Field

Date: Sunday, October 29, 2000
Time: 9:00AM - 4:00PM EST (GMT-05:00)

West Pioneer Trail
Mantua Township, Portage County, Ohio
http://web.raex.com/~markndeb/rockets/mtma/ptmt.htm
Setup at 9:00 a.m.
Range opens at 10:00 a.m.

Locked Sunday's Launch

Tod Hilty

Just a quick reminder regarding Sunday's launch at our Pioneer Trail flying
field. Setup is at 9AM, and the range will be open from 10AM to 4PM.
Currently, LMR rules apply, but we may have a 4000 foot waiver, if Stan can
get it activated.

Weather looks good at this point, but if we get a lot of rain between now
and Sunday, the launch may be scrubbed, as the field tends to get very
swampy with rain. If there is a scrub, it will be announced via email
before 8AM Sunday morning, so please check your email before departing for
the field.

The corn in the eastern field has been removed, and the corn in the western
field was in the process of being harvested. I'll be checking the field
later today, and will report back its status.

For directions to the field, see the MTMA web site at:

http://web.raex.com/~markndeb/rockets/mtma/

Locked Sunday Launch Update

Tod Hilty

I just checked the field about an hour ago, and _all_ corn is out, so the
field is now the size it was during our June launch. The area that was
plowed before is now disked (read, much smoother), and I will be verifying
with the landowner that he's not got anything planted there.

Weather forcasts are improving, so, at this point, I don't see any scrubs on
the horizon.

Hope to see everyone Sunday!

I know it felt like June because it was so warm, but the launch at
Pioneer Trail before the corn was planted was actually on April 30!

Here's a run-down of launches since MTMA became an official NAR section.

- Second Sunday in April we got rained/snowed out at SCFG.
- Fifth Sunday in April was the aforementioned launch at Pioneer Trail.
- Second Sunday in May was the "I told you so" Mothers' Day launch at
SCFG.
- Second Sunday in June was the "you're scaring Fifi" launch at SCFG.
- Second Sunday in July was canceled due to "field issues".
- Fifth Sunday in July was a beautiful day at Pioneer Trail.
- Second Sunday in August was canceled due to wet field conditions at
Pioneer Trail.
- Fourth Sunday in August was when Zeus ran us off of the Pioneer Trail
site.
- Second Sunday in September we did the Aviation Day display at KSU
Airport.
- Fourth Sunday in September we got rained out at Pioneer Trail.
- Second Sunday in October was canceled due to "field issues" and wet
weather.
- Fifth Sunday in October was "a rocketeers dream weather day" at SCFG.

Weather forcasts are improving, so, at this point, I don't see any scrubs on
the horizon.
Still looking good!

Hope to see everyone Sunday!
I won't be there, but wish you all clear skies and calm winds.

Just a quick reminder...

Sunday is the day we change back to EST from DST. Clocks should be set
forward an hour as of 2AM Sunday morning.

I totally forgot about the change, and thanks to Mark Recktenwald for
reminding me, as I would've shown up at the field at 8AM!..

I'll be walking the field later today (looking for Randy's motor casing!
:).. and I'll report back field conditions..

Locked OK fine!...

Tod Hilty

<blush>

Thank you, all you *wisenheimers*, for reminding me of the actual movement
of the "big hand, and the little hand"... I was under the influence of
decongestants and was quite clueless at the time that mail was sent..

<vbg>

Visted the field today (couldn't find a motor casing Randy), and I probably
will be setting up Trigger at the end of the oil well access road, as this
will put us roughly in the center of the entire field. Just look for my
van out in the field, and you'll know where to go..

Field conditions are fine, and even people with "normal" cars should be
able to get to the rangehead...

Cya all tomorrow!

Tod

Sunday's launch report has just been posted to RMR. I won't spam egroups
with it due to it's size, so if anyone who doesn't monitor RMR would like a
copy, email me directly.

Oh, BTW, Randy... Larry Graceffo was out in the corn field when he darn near
tripped over this cardboard tube sticking straight up out of the ground.
Inside the tube was a spiffy 38mm Dr. Rocket casing, and inside the casing,
there appears to be the remains of a J350... any idea who it belongs to?

<vbg>

It's safe, and warm here in the corner of my office...

Hey all,

My step father has recently joined the RC Airplane club that flys at
the Summit County Fairgrounds. He mentioned to me last weekend that
their newsletter had an article about a rocket club from Medina that
has petitioned the SCFG mgt. for rights to fly every weekend in
2001. Now I believe that the RC guys are a little bothered by this
prospect and I'm sure it will be a major topic at their club meeting
tonight. Have they confused Medina with Mantua (I assume we haven't
made this request) or is it TCSB or some other rogue group of
rocketeers? Anybody have any idea who this group is? I see no new
Ohio NAR or TRA clubs on their respective web pages.
