MTMA Group Charter
m_reckt@...
The MTMA group was created as a way of notifying its members of MTMA
events, news, etc. Anyone who is interested in rocketry in the northeast Ohio area can join the group. It doesn't matter if you belong to one of the many rocketry organizations or not. This is not a discussion group. Discussions on subjects related to model rocketry and high power rocketry are held on the Usenet Newsgroup news://rec.models.rockets (RMR). Messages posted to MTMA@... will be automatically sent to all members of the MTMA group, and, therefore, should be reserved for official notifications of MTMA events, and important news and other information deemed relevant by the moderator. At this time, the moderator will review all messages sent to the group before they are posted. The moderator has better things to do with his time and would just as soon not have to do this; however, it is in the moderator's best interest that this group become the main means of the dissemination of group information. To this end, he will do everything in his power to see that members of this group are not inconvenienced by their membership (i.e., there should be no increase in unwanted e-mail). What is MTMA?
m_reckt@...
The Mantua Township Missile Agency (MTMA) is a charted Section (#606)
of the National Association of Rocketry (http://www.nar.org). We met on the Usenet Newsgroup news://rec.models.rockets (RMR) and began flying rockets together in the spring of 1999. We hold our events in the greater Kent, Ohio area. Launches are currently held at one of two sites: Pioneer Trail Field in Mantua Township, Portage County, Ohio; or the Summit County Fairgrounds in Tallmadge, Ohio. For more information, see our web page: http://web.raex.com/~markndeb/rockets/mtma/index.htm Our current launch schedule is posted on our web page at: http://web.raex.com/~markndeb/rockets/mtma/launches.htm Mark Recktenwald MTMA Group Moderator |

List History
m_reckt@...
This group replaces the e-mail address lists manually maintained by
the officers of MTMA. The original list was nothing more than a few e-mail addresses of some guys who were posting messages on RMR and decided to get together to fly some rockets. Seven flyers and their families attended our first launch in May 1999. As other area rocketeers were found on RMR, they were invited to join. By the end of 1999, we decided to form our own NAR section. The moderator's personal web page was expanded and an area added for the MTMA web page. A form was placed on the web page for folks to enter their e-mail address. It said: "If you live near Kent and wish to join us for our next launch, enter your name and e-mail address in the boxes below and click ''Subscribe''. Your e-mail address will be added to our distribution list." The list has now grown to over 60 members and is a bit unwieldy for us to maintain and update. Mark Recktenwald MTMA Group Moderator |

Bonus!
m_reckt@...
As a "side-effect" of creating this group, there are several features
built in to eGroups that will be nice additions to the tools currently at the disposal of MTMA e-mail list members. Shared file storage: Although major file storage is still up to the MTMA web site and the individual members' sites. Shared file distribution: Although ABMR should still be primary distribution channel, many do not have access to it, particular with the re-structuring of Remarq (maybe someone should establish a group on eGroups to replace ABMR). Calendar: Although the MTMA web site is still the primary point of reference for this (http://web.raex.com/~markndeb/rockets/mtma/launches.htm). Chat: Although not intended to replace other rocketry chat groups or individuals using instant messaging applications, the eGroups Chat feature could be used to hold "virtual meetings". * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I feel I must reiterate: THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION GROUP. Discussions on subjects related to model rocketry and high power rocketry are held on the Usenet Newsgroup news://rec.models.rockets (RMR) and shall be considered off-topic in the MTMA group. The moderator is easy to get along with, and has a lot of patience. NOTE: that last sentence reads "a lot" and not "an infinite amount". * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mark Recktenwald MTMA Group Moderator |

Bi-monthly Meeting
Mark Recktenwald <m_reckt@...>
As you know, today's launch just got canceled. I was talking to Tod when
we made the decision and he suggested we try to hold a meeting today. Since Chuck is not going to be available, I said we ought to wait. Technically, tomorrow is our "last Monday of odd numbered months" standing meeting date. I know it's too late now, but does anyone have any suggestions for a possible meeting date between now and our next launch on October 8th? What about trying out the "Chat" feature of eGroups and having an online meeting there? By the way, what do you guys think of eGroups? Should I post an announcement to the group and make the switch? -- Mark Recktenwald Stow, Ohio NAR #77432, Level 1, Co V.P./Sec'y MTMA, NAR Section #606 MTMA web page: http://web.raex.com/~markndeb/rockets/mtma/ |

Sunday, October 8, 2000 Launch
Mark Recktenwald <m_reckt@...>
Our next launch will be this Sunday, October 8, 2000 at the Summit
County Fairgrounds. Setup 9:00 a.m., range open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. At this time, I have no details on our waiver. Until we get word from Stan, LMR rules (FAR 101.22) will be in effect. The Summit County Fairgrounds are located on the northeast quadrant of the intersection of North Avenue (S.R.91) and Howe Road in Tallmadge, Ohio. The launch range will be set up in the northwest portion of the fairgrounds property, in a turf parking area, accessible from S.R. 91, just north of the soccer fields. Here's a URL to a MapsOnUs map of the area: http://MapsOnUs.switchboard.com/bin/maps-map/usr=~new/mapCentScale=-81.43940%2c41.12390%2c0.40?SelectItems=-&AddMarker=Marker=END%09LL=-81.43940%2c41.12390%09Name=End+Point+%28Set+by+click%29&SessionSrc=SendMail.mIf your browser clips or wraps the above link, you'll have to cut and paste everything together from "http://MapsOnUs..." to "...SessionSrc=SendMail.m" The label "E" on their map stands for "End Point" and can be used in their "Route Planner" to plan a route from your home to the site. To do this, click on their link to "Plan a Route" on the left side of the page. On the next page, click the "Enter Address" button under "Start of Route". Enter your address, City, and State; then click "SET START ADDRESS". On the resulting page, click on "Plan Route". You'll then be presented with a full map from start to finish and turn-by-turn directions. Note: In FAR Sec. 101.22, Large model rockets are defined as "model rockets that use not more than 125 grams of propellant ... and that weigh not more than 1,500 grams, including the propellant". For those of you who haven't signed up for the eGroups mailing list, please take the time to do it soon, this list of 60-plus names has gotten too big to maintain manually. To subscribe to the MTMA group on eGroups, simply send an e-mail to: MTMA-subscribe@... 10/08/2000 Launch Update
Mark Recktenwald <m_reckt@...>
The City of Tallmadge will be holding a heritage festival this weekend.
A parade is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The parade will form at the Weaver School, just south of the Fairgrounds. During the parade, access to the Fairgrounds from Howe Avenue or from the south along S.R. 91 will not be possible. If you will be arriving for the launch between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., plan on coming in on S.R. 91 from the north (Stow or Munroe Falls end). Hey Stan, any word on the waiver? Once again, Sunday, October 8, 2000, Summit County Fairgrounds, setup at 9:00 a.m., range open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. BE THERE! Hello, anyone check out eGroups yet? 10/08/2000 Launch CANCELED
Mark Recktenwald <m_reckt@...>
** 10/8 LAUNCH CANCELED **
Due the Tallmadge Heritage Festival Parade, the folks at the Summit County Fairgrounds (SCFG) do not want us launching this Sunday. We could change over to the Pioneer Trail site, but due to the weather we are supposed to get, that site will likely be a cold mud hole by Sunday. I would like to schedule a launch at SCFG as soon as possible to prove to myself that it can be done. I am going to try to get us permission for the weekend of October 21/22. More to come later. Thanks to those that have recently signed-up for eGroups. The folks with the following addresses signed up but did not reply to the confirmation message: dbaker@... jdlemhut@... jim_phillips@... Thunk.. thunk... is this thing on? <g>
Tod Hilty
Figgered I'd try out this newfangled egroups thingy...
Coming back from the Aurora library today, I noticed Mr. Carlton's harvested the corn in the eastern field at Pioneer Trail! Cool! Flyable area has now more than doubled. Hopefully, he'll have the corn in the western field out soon too! Yours in grain... Tod A. Hilty, NAR #72099 Hilty Information Systems Mantua Township Missile Agency |

MTMA password
Wolfram v.Kiparski <wolf@...>
Hello MTMA,
I just got a new email address, and subscribed to the MTMA mailserver. The problem I have is that I want to change my email address on my user profile on egroups (I am subscribed to several other mailing lists there). I can't do it because "wolf@..." is "already in use," and I need a password for the "wolf@..." account in order to edit it. Seems like I have to delete my old profile, and resubscribe using my new profile. What is the password? Missed the last two scheduled launches, but that only allows me and my cousin to get "more ready" for the next one. Hope we get an Indian Summer weekend soon. Regards, Wolf |

MTMA Holiday Party!
Tod Hilty
OK, Ok... I've been kicking around the idea of hosting an MTMA holiday party
at the palatial Hilty Compound in the weeks to come... It could be a "carry in" sorta thing with the Hilty family providing the meat, and you guys could bring in everything else... Um, my special "atomic chicken wings" on the grill would be a nice choice.. Awards (of course) would be necessary, but a date, sometime during the next couple of months that would work for everyone would be even better... Anyone have any good suggestions for weekends during November, and December? Comments? Tod |

October 22, 2000 Launch
Mark Recktenwald <m_reckt@...>
Our next launch will be this Sunday, October 22, 2000, at the Summit
County Fairgrounds. Setup at 9:00 a.m., range open from 10:00 a.m. until about 4:00 p.m. Permission from the Summit County Fairgrounds was confirmed today (finally!). No word from Stan yet on the waiver. I assume we will get the usual waiver to 3,500 feet. If not, LMR rules (FAR 101.22) will be in effect. Stan, Tod, and I will bring our ground support equipment. I also have Chuck's Trigger(tm), his four-rod rack-launch system. If you want to bring your own gear, no problem, if we have too much just leave it in the car. For those not familiar with the fairgrounds, we will be in the northwestern portion of the fairground's property, on the east side of North Avenue (S.R. 91), north of Howe Avenue and the Tallmadge soccer fields. The range will be set up in a grass parking area, a mowed field about 25 acres in size with over 100 acres of former farmland (tall weeds) to the north. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DIRECTIONS: Here is a URL to a MapsOnUs map: http://MapsOnUs.switchboard.com/bin/maps-map/usr=~new/mapCentScale=-81.80869%2c40.85472%2c0.40?SelectItems=-&AddMarker=Marker=END%09LL=-81.80869%2c40.85472%09Name=End+Point+%28Set+by+click%29&SessionSrc=SendMail.mIf your browser clips or wraps the above link, you'll have to cut and paste everything together from "http://MapsOnUs..." to "...SessionSrc=SendMail.m" The label "E" on their map stands for "End Point" and can be used in their "Route Planner" to plan a route from your home to the site.
