Organizer: MTMA

Description: This is a public model rocket launch to be conducted in accordance with the NAR Model Rocket Safety Code ( http://www.nar.org/safety-information/model-rocket-safety-code/ ) and MTMA launch procedures.  Anyone is invited to attend.  This is not a High Power launch.

There is a $5 per person fee for non-members.  Children and young people of school age fly for free.

Non-members are limited to 10 N-s impulse maximum (C motor), no staging, and no clusters.  All models are subject to a safety check prior to launch.

In the event of poor flying conditions, we may reschedule for the following Sunday. Monitor our message board at https://mtma.groups.io/g/public/topics for updates.

Launch starts at 10:00 am.  Please arrive earlier rather than later. We fly until 6:00 pm, or until everyone has had enough and goes home. If you arrive later in the day, you may find that we have already flown and packed up.

Thanks Mike.

Unless you've found a golf course to fly on, model rocketry can be a somewhat rugged, bush-whacking, on your feet all day activity.  Wear long pants and protective footwear like light-to-mid weight hikers or trail runners.   Don't wear shorts and sandals to a launch. I've seen guys get their legs all abraded just from walking through the grass.  Now add the ticks crawling all over you with the scratched up skin.  Not good.  Please dress appropriately.

I will be stocking up on repellents containing Permethrin for on clothing, and DEET for on skin.

Wolf,

Do you have a list of members who have renewed thus far?

So far we've had 20 individuals, including family members, sign up for 2021.  That's out of an estimated 34 potential members.  Thank-you to all returning and new members.

If you haven't already, please renew your MTMA membership by the end of the month.  Please also don't forget to renew your NAR membership.  We have a bunch of you that are within a month of expiration.  MTMA membership expires if your NAR membership lapses.

I hope to see many of you at our May 8 launch at Harmon Field.

John was a great man. He had plans for a club trip to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patt with a side trip to E-Rockets that was delayed by Covid. Now I won't be able to see either of those entities without thinking of John.

He will surely be missed at launches.

Ollie and I did the BYOG launches a few of the available weekends over winter. It was usually only 3-5 rockets till fingers were cold and we would leave after 30-90 minutes.

Then my wife had neck surgery in February followed by our youngest getting Covid the following week. So she went to a hotel for a month, as I was in isolation with with the kids. THANKFULLY, Kris's neck is much improved, the cases of Covid were mild, not everyone got it, and we are all out the other side, but it's been crazy for last 8-10 weeks.

We did build a bunch of new rockets during lockdown/isolation, some still need paint. Really looking forward to getting caught up, that we can get back to lunching on our designated weekends. HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE SOON.

Mike

We have been launching as a byog. Not sure when all the clubs loose ends will be finalized, but until then we can launch on the second and fourth weekend of the month as a byog. The next launch is April 24 weather permitting.

Members can bring your own gear on the 2nd and 4th weekends of the month. But if there is nowhere to pay dues, who is a member?

The grass is short still, and we have enlarged the rocket field are to an 80 foot circle, and we rolled the furoughs down a bit.

Save the attached membership form on your computer, fill it out, save it, and email it to:

president@...

After we get your form you will receive instructions how you can pay your 2021 MTMA dues via PayPal.  Anyone wishing to opt out of the PayPal process can do so in writing when you email the form.  We'll make other arrangements, but your membership privileges may be delayed and you may experience some inconvenience.

This is a first-time effort doing this way.  If there are technical issues, as there usually are, we will work through them.  This form may not be compatible with your mobile device, and if it isn't, get thee to your laptop or workstation and use that.

I felt I had to be AWOL.  Please forgive me.  MTMA is definitely still a thing, and I am catching up with neglected business and email.

Quick updates:
  • The next launch is April 24 at Harmon and is going to be a BYOG launch.
  • Gary Stricker has agreed to help organize and maintain our launch capabilities at Harmon.
  • No dates at Barber Field have been set.
  • Mark Recktenwald set up a PayPal method for easily paying dues.  Details to follow tonight or tomorrow by Wednesday, April 14.
  • I acknowledge that the meeting minutes for our last business meeting were not posted as has been usual these past few years.
