It has been a long time since we last talked.  I have a bunch of model rocket stuff – rockets and motors from our scout days.  The motors have been in a hermetically sealed ammo can for a few years.  Would you guys be interested in them or should I just safely dispose of them?

Hi Wolf,

Yes definitely !  I already have a 4’ section of 2020, and a 3’ section of the next size smaller, and a whole bunch of rail buttons that will fit both. My intention was to rebuild the old club launch pad and have it accommodate these as well as standard size rods. I get stymied everytime  I try to find the parts to connect things. McMaster Carr gets a 10 for having everything you need, but a big fat 0 when it comes to customer service or a website that actually finds what you are looking for. If I could speak to a human there, This would have been done before the season started this year…

I’m open to whatever you want to do.

Please bring that old launchpad tomorrow and I will relive you of it…

See ya then!

John

Does anyone have any interest in starting to use rail buttons for smaller model rockets?

We could get a 20mm t-slot rail from 80/20.  This is the same size rail that Mike Nowak uses if you've seen his personal launcher.

20mm x 20mm rail on Ebay

mini rail buttons at railbuttons.com

locked Why Did We Move to Groups.io?

Mark Recktenwald

A number of us have been frustrated with Yahoo Groups for some time. Our Calendar notifications have been spotty (I manually sent out the ones for this Saturday's launch). I have been evaluating Groups.io as a replacement.

Yahoo customer care recently indicated that they no longer support Yahoo Groups. Google Groups have been similarly neglected.

Verizon’s recent acquisition of Yahoo will likely affect Yahoo Groups. The new company that Verizon has created with the combined assets of AOL and Yahoo is called Oath. Take a look at the "Our Brands" page at Oath.com. Yahoo Groups is notably absent. It is possible that Yahoo Groups could stop working one day, and then our contact list and all of our group content would be lost.

If you use email to post group messages receive group messages, all that's changed is the email address. You can send and receive group messages from your email just like you did with the Yahoo Group. Files, photos, etc. can be accessed at the Groups.io website just like the Yahoo Group.

The creator of Groups.io is the same person who designed the original groups service (ONElist) that through mergers and acquisitions become Yahoo Groups.

Now let's go fly some rockets!

locked Welcome to the New MTMA Group on Groups.io

Mark Recktenwald

I want to welcome everyone who is still interested in the MTMA and NE Ohio rocketry. Thanks for staying with us during the move to Groups.io. The email address for posting at the new group location is:

MTMA@groups.io

If you put this in your address book, most email services and programs will offer to autocomplete the address after you type the first few characters in the "To:" field when composing a new message. You can delete the old group email address on Yahoo (posting has been turned off there anyway). If you do not delete it, you'll get two suggestions for autocomplete.

If you used email to read and compose messages in the old group on Yahoo, you can do the same on Groups.io. If you wish to access additional features on the web, this is the URL for the new site:

All of our previous messages, files, photos, etc. have been transferred over. Whatever was in the old group has been copied here. This was a part of the reason that we chose to move to Groups.io. If you find that anything is missing, let me know and I can copy it here manually from the old group.

Thanks again,
Mark Recktenwald
