I know I said that we would not be having any launches this spring. I lied. The field owner, Mr. Born, has told me that they have mowed the hay field and we can fly on it this weekend. A number of students from the University of Akron's "Akronauts" rocket team will also be there to do NAR L1 certification flights.

Sorry for the late and short notice, but I just confirmed today that the field is okay to fly on.  This will be the latest we have every had a launch at the Amherst field.

The weather forecast is for less than a 10% chance of rain, mostly cloudy with the cloud ceiling from 6-12K feet, a high temp of 78F and winds from 8-10 mph out of the NE.

The launch will be held on Sunday, July 7th, from 11AM until 5PM.

Parking will probably be on the road, so park on the right side so cars can pass.

This will be a NOTRA Research launch and conducted under the Tripoli Rocketry Association Research Safety Code. All NOTRA, Skybusters and MTMA members are welcome to fly as both Commercial and Research motors can be flown up to the individual members certification level. You must be at least a TRA L2 to fly Research motors. TRA members may also fly uncertified commercial motors or motors that have had their certification expire. The waiver altitude is 4800 feet.

There is an L motor limit. We no longer provide hybrid motor support. If you want to fly hybrids, you need to bring all the ground support equipment you’ll need.

We will have two high-power pads set up with ¼”, 3/8” and 7/16”rods along with 1” & 1.5” rails. We will also have a model rocket pad and launching system set up with 1/8”, 3/16” and ¼” rods. The Skybusters 6-pad model rocket rack will not be set up.

Please consider arriving a bit early and staying after the launch to help with set-up and tear down. And please bring bags for any trash you might generate during the launch. Trash containers will be set up at the launch pads and range head.

There will NOT be a Porta-Potty at this launch. There will also be no food or motor vendors on site.

Any Tripoli member who wishes to do a certification flight or take the Level 2 certification test please contact me beforehand. NAR certification flights can also be done.

Greetings to all!

Another reminder of the coming special celebration event. On Saturday, July 20th, the MTMA will be hosting a celebration event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. We will be getting things rolling at our normal time of 10:00 AM and will continue for most of the day, until the festivities and contests are over and prizes are awarded.

Wait... did I say CONTESTS and PRIZES??? Yes. Yes I did. in addition to the normal day's flying activities, we will be having two contests. the first will be a stand-off or sport-scale contest. Bring out your U.S. Space Program scale model rockets (of the flying type), from the Mercury program on up through the Apollo program, to be judged. This is not a NAR endorsed contest, but we will be adapting NAR pink book rules for judging. Your models don't need to be perfect, they just need to adequately represent the full-scale subject from a stand-off distance.

We will also be holding a spot-landing contest. The target will be an analog representation of the moon and the rocket landing closest to it wins!

We will be giving away very nice prizes for first, second, and third places in both of these contests, so bring out your entries, and dust up your parachutes!

We will also be holding a raffle for a brand new Estes #1969 Saturn V moon rocket kit! This is the one you have to build, not the pre-built plastic model.

Additionally, we will be giving everyone in attendance a ticket for an hourly door prize kit.

Please come and have fun, help out if you can and have fun! This is YOUR club and it's a great opportunity to show everyone what we do when we're out on a Saturday afternoon and come home smelling like burnt black powder!

See you all there!

Jeff

As a part of this, we would like to ask any club members who wish to help out, to please come and lend a hand. Any help is welcome, from answering the public's questions, to helping out recovering rockets. Even just coming out to fly your rockets as a show for any members of the public who attend will positively add to the event.

In addition to our normal launch activities, we will be having a spot-landing competition, and a sport-scale competition. The scale contest will be limited to U.S. Space Program models up to and including the Apollo missions.

There will be prizes for these competitions, as well as door prizes throughout the day. The club will also be providing Hot Dogs to much on if you get hungry.

Rules for the contests will be relaxed and not official NAR contests, but the rules will be based on the NAR Pink Book. The idea is to have fun and to help get the word out to the public about MTMA and model rocketry.

We need YOUR help to assist us in making this event a success so any time you can donate would be gratefully accepted. It's community outreach programs like this that help us keep our flying field.

Please contact myself or any of the club officers if you have any questions.

We hope to see you there!!!

Weather is predicted to be sunny, warm, with a 2 mph breeze out of the east.  This is the same forecast we had two weeks ago, and we know how that worked out.  But if the forecast holds true it will be ideal for rocket flying on our small field.

Field conditions are going to be soggy.  The grass is getting tall.  Long pants and footwear that can tolerate wet conditions in the great outdoors are highly recommended.  Leave the shorts and sandals at home.

I'm planning on staying there until 4:00 pm, unless some personal business matter arises between now and then that demands my attention.

Good news for a change!  We are going to have a few guests flying. I was contacted by a father of an 8 year old boy who lives in Twinsburg about getting some help in getting started. It led to a build session with four dads and five young boys who are planning to attend our launch this Saturday. I will be there early to help set up and hopefully fly a few of my own models for a change. I’m looking forward to seeing you there on Saturday
