locked This Weekend’s Launch is CANCELED #nogo

Mark Recktenwald

Due to forecast rain and unfavorable wind direction, this weekend’s launch is canceled.

If you want to dodge the rain drops, or if they fail to materialize, we will treat tomorrow as a “Bring Your Own Gear” launch. This will only be open to those paid-up MTMA members who also hold a current NAR membership.

locked Tomorrow’s launch is POSTPONED #nogo

Jeff Kodysz

Due to predicted rain in the morning and chilly weather, tomorrow’s launch has been rescheduled to our rain date on Sunday. This will give the field the better part of Saturday to dry out. We hope to see you there!

locked Launch today is CANCELLED #nogo

Jeff Kodysz

Due to soft ground and standing water conditions at the field, as well as elevated winds and sub-normal temperatures (39 degrees), the launch that was postponed for today is cancelled.

Please give whatever offerings you are able to the weather gods, pray in church on Sunday, or give some rum to Jobu, and perhaps we will have better conditions for the next scheduled launch.

locked This weekend's launch SCRUBBED due to weather (again). #nogo

Jeff Kodysz

Apparently, our pleas to the weather gods have fallen on deaf ears, and Jobu has once again forsaken us. Thus, we are calling off the launch scheduled for this coming weekend for BOTh Saturday, and the make-up launch on Sunday. the forecast for both days is rain and thunderstorms.

If anyone has any pull with DARPA, maybe they could get HAARP running and send some nice weekends our way.

Next launch will be the 26th.

Farr, Warren III W.

All,

On Saturday 5/19 will be the annual launch of the Chagrin Falls Intermediate School (5th graders) Rocket Club. Each year, the 5th grade science class is given the opportunity to participate in rocket club where each student builds and flies a "B" class model rocket (typically Baby Bertha or Wizard/streamer).

Setup at 8:30a, launch begins at 9a. The filed is behind the Chagrin Falls High School on East Washington Street. We have about 50 kids launching three times from a six pad launching system. There are lots of drag races!

Help is most welcome. Managing that many kids and flights safely is our first priority. Demonstration flights are welcome (be aware, the field is small, so saucers are king). Email me with any questions: warren3@....

Thanks! Warren

I am headed up with CG to cover it for the Rocketry Show, Vern will be speaking at the banquet on Saturday and we understand he will be dropping some little know history!  We are very excited to have a chance to be there for that!!  I don’t think I’ll be flying anything, but it will be great to be there.

locked Chagrin Falls Intermediate School 5th Grade Rocket Club

Mark Recktenwald

As Warren Farr mentioned in a post last week, the 5th Grade Rocket Club at Chagrin Falls Intermediate School will be holding their annual launch this Saturday, May 19 at 9:00 am. The launch will take place in the field behind the Chagrin Falls High School at 400 E Washington St, Chagrin Falls, OH, 44022.

We will set up at the field at 8:30 am. Warren assembled a very nice six-position "saw horse" launch stand for the two science teachers who run this program. I have been helping Warren with this launch for a number of years, and several club members have stopped out to help and fly some larger demo rockets. The field is small, so low-flying rockets are best. The students have enjoyed "barely-enough powered" mid-power rockets and E-, F-, or G-powered saucers in the past.

There will be about 50 students and each has the opportunity to fly their A- or B-powered rocket (mostly Baby Berthas and Wizards) three times. Build quality, rocket-eating trees, the random C-motor, and sports schedules generally limit the re-flights for many of the students. Past launches have generally been wrapped up in about two hours.

I know we all have been itching to fly since the weather has been uncooperative, and this launch is GO unless the winds violate the Safety Code, their is torrential rain, or thunderstorms. According to the latest forecast, the odds are in our favor!

Please consider spending a couple hours this Saturday morning paying forward.

locked 1/195 scale Saturn V kit

Wolfram v.Kiparski

Balsa Machining Service is making a limited run of Peter Alway's 1/195 Saturn V kit.  This is a BT-60 diameter and 22-inch long Saturn V kit that flies on B6-4 and C6-5 engines.  Build one for next year's Apollo 11 commemorative launch.

Price is $50.  That may seem like a lot, but Peter Alway created a few very nice kits back in the day.  I missed out on the Saturn V, but his Astrobee 1500 kit was probably the finest kit that I've ever built.  Definitely a builders' kit.  I expect not to be disappointed in the Saturn V kit.  Read Chan Stevens' review here.
